Letter of Appeal in Light of Events in the Middle East

11 April 2002

The Board of the Canadian Council of Christians and Jews, Alberta Region, appeals to all Albertans and especially to Calgarians to do all that is possible to promote peace in the Middle East, to recognize the right of both Palestinians and Israelis to enjoy peace and security, and to promote dialogue and understanding, not confrontation, within our civic community. We appeal to members of all faith traditions to demonstrate at home and to the world the highest and hardest virtues of our faiths: mercy, compassion and forgiveness, rather than the easy responses of anger and indignation. We call upon all to commit to prayer and cooperation, rather than hatred and antagonism, within our faith communities.
