Christians in Crisis in the Holy Land
The Council will be hosting a luncheon, lecture and discussion with journalist Matthew Kalman
this Thursday, June 16th, from 12:00 noon to 1:30 pm upstairs at the Calgary Jewish Centre.
He is replacing Yossi Klein Halevi who was originally scheduled to speak.
His biography is as follows:
Matthew Kalman, 44, has been Jerusalem correspondent for the Globe & Mail, CanWest Newspapers,
CTV, the London Sunday Times and USA Today. He currently writes for Time magazine, the San Francisco
Chronicle, New York Daily News and the London Daily Mail and reports for Channel 4 TV News in
Britain.
Matthew is married with four children. Born in London, he was educated at Cambridge University, the
London School of Economics and the Hebrew University in Jerusalem. He was the founding editor of the
Anglo-Jewish magazine New Moon and the London Jewish News newspaper and chairperson of the Union of
Jewish Students in Britain.
Matthew has spent many hours with the Christians in Bethlehem and has published a number of
stories about them. According to Matthew, "Most people outside the Holy Land don't know
how few Christians there are here - less than 2% of the population - and how few of them are
Catholic. 60% of these Christians are Greek Orthodox."
His topic for discussion will concern Jewish-Christian-Muslim relations. |
